Paint Night, June 12th

We have had lots of request for more frames & door hangers so we have combined the two & added something new for a one of a kind paint night at Junque 2 Jewels!

Class details:

Price: $30 (includes all craft supplies along with drinks & light refreshments)

Cancellation Policy

You must provide at least a 24 hour advance notice if you cannot make your reserved class in order to receive a credit toward a future class. No refunds will be issued as payments are processed at the time the reservations are made.

Right to Cancel

Junque 2 Jewels reserves the right to cancel a class any time due to insufficient enrollment; registrants will be notified approximately 24 hours before the class is scheduled to begin and refunds will be processed or offer credit towards another class. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Attendees

Our regular scheduled classes are intended for crafters age 16 and older. We do offer Kid classes on occasion for younger age groups where noted.

Please note all images above serve as inspiration for what you can create in our studio, not all are Junque 2 Jewels images and will vary slightly from the original creations.

Problem Solved?

To be perfectly honest, I have a problem.

I try to blame my lack of organization on just having too much on my plate or other people messing up my system but the real ugly truth is that I'm an organizational MESS!

I am just not a very oganized person.
I don't want to be disorganized.

I'd LOVE for everything to have a perfectly designated home, rather than searching high & low all the time for things.

I'd LOVE to know what's on the calendar each day rather than relying on my BFF to keep up with my hair appointments.

I'd LOVE not to be sending belated birthday cards but rather pro-actively sending them out before the actual birthday.

I'd LOVE to know the answer to "what's for dinner?" before it's actually dinner time.

I'd LOVE to know when my dogs are due for shots, not get an ugly answer from the boarding facility when I go to drop them off (happens to me EVERY time!).

So I'm going to do something about it! I painted this desk...

Not a big deal right?

Well I'm claiming it to be an extremely big deal. It will function as my command center and launch me into being my most organized self : )

At least that's what I'm imagining. It will have a family calendar, stash of cards, stamps & envelops. Maybe coupons & mail? It will be the hub where I pay bills from and so much more! It's a craft/mess free zone designated to ME being organized. Wish me luck.

PS:The technical side of this post is that I took a slick surface desk I found on craigslist and primed it and painted it slightly neon acid yellow (it's not for everyone). Then we added a quatrefoil top detail and refinished the hardware and did some distressing to make it something I love to look at. It's full of character & a little spunky. Hopefully it's so inviting I want to sit down and organize something: )

Desk Do Over with Chalk Paint

I'm on a bit of a painting kick right now, trying different techniques in re-finishing projects and such.

Today I wanted to share my first attempt at refinishing furniture by making my own chalk paint. The great thing about chalk paint I heard is you don't have to sand or strip the projects before painting, saving lots of hard work. Sign me up for this short cut!

So I snatched up this old desk on Craigslist for $20 and went to work...literally-if you know me, you know I went to work right away and didn't want to stop until I had a finished project but it RAINED which was so frustrating! Anyway, it did eventually get done but here is where we started. UG - ly!

Keep in mind when selecting peices to re-finish that you want a solid wood piece -not veneer - that is still in functioning condition (i.e. drawers open easily etc.).

I started by mixin' up a batch of DIY chalkpaint...2 parts paint ( I went with Valspar in "Man Cave" greyish color) and 1 part Paris of Plaster. Mix REALLY well so you don't get chalky white blobs when you start plaint. It will be thick and almost looks like rising dough - very airy & fluffy. Then get started painting...

This chalkpaint is so thick that it covers well in 2 coats and dries to a chalky matte finish. I let mine dry over night and then went to work sanding using a combination of our electric palm sander and 120 grit regular sand paper for the more detailed areas.

The chalkpaint worked like a dream for the distressed, slightly chippy finish I was going for! It exposed the wood along the creases and on the leg details. For my piece, the wood originally was a light Oak stain and I wanted something darker so I coated the piece with a Mahogony stain to get the darker wood look.

Lastly, I wanted a slightly shiney finish so I decided to have the hubs seal with a layer of Shellac.

(I don't have the patients required for spray painting anything yet!)

Here is what she looks like...sans handles which are still being painted.
